Trying to save the class, which has seen dwindling racers, sponsors and fan interest, the NHRA will make a change to the Pro Stock schedule for next year.

The Agent has learned that at nine of the 24 national events there will be eight-car fields instead of 16. Those events will be Houston, Topeka, Epping, Englishtown, Bristol, Denver, Sonoma, Seattle and Brainerd.

The sanctioning body is re-evaluating the viability of the class.  [10/04/17]

A West Coast hummingbird with really tired wings landed on the Phlegm Building porch this morning. NMCA West has not had the support they need from racers this year. Everyone knows that NMCA East and NMRA races are bursting at the seams with growing car counts at all events. But the West coast racers haven’t been turning out this year.

Word is that if the NMCA West Coast World Finals on Oct. 13-15 has another disappointing car count, there may very well not be an NMCA West in 2018.

Alexis DeJoria Racing’s annual ‘Free Mammograms for the Fans’ program has provided more than 440 free mammography screenings since 2013. Now in its fifth year, the program is on track to reach a major milestone in 2017: 500 free screenings.

Support from The Patrón Spirits Company, Toyota, Global Electronic Technology and Kalitta Motorsports, has enabled Alexis DeJoria Racing to once again partner with Baylor Health and Nevada Health Centers (NVHC) and bring their mobile mammography units (mammovans) to the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals and the NHRA Toyota Nationals.

With an event ticket, women ages 40 and older are able to attend the Dallas and Las Vegas races and receive a free mammogram regardless of health insurance status. Multiple sources cite lack of health insurance, high out-of-pocket cost, and lack of access to care as the primary reasons women forgo this important yearly screening.

Alexis DeJoria’s Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry Funny Car will be decked out with bright pink accents in honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“We’re so honored and grateful to be working with these amazing organizations and to be able to use our platform in the greater good for the fight against this horrible epidemic,” said DeJoria, who, as one of the few females in the male-dominated motorsports industry, felt compelled to do more than simply raise awareness for breast cancer, and instead provide a direct service for the NHRA’s female fan base.

Tucson Dragway held their Fall Fuel Extravaganza on Sept. 30.

The Western Fuel Altered group ran an eight-car show with Sheldon Lofgreen’s turbocharged entry taking down the hardware. However, Greg Holman’s “Carbon Copy” roadster from Kingman, AZ, won the WFA Season Championship by making the semifinals and winning at Albuquerque and Western Colorado during the season.

The WFA race was contested by more than the eight cars that qualified, making runs on Friday very interesting. A full field assembled for the first round on Saturday. Rich Nasby, Greg Holman, Sheldon Lofgreen, and Mitch Bowen advanced to the semifinal round. Lofgreen used a .076 RT at 6.63/195.48 to beat 2016 Season Champ Bowen, who was right there at 6.70/205.22. Nasby set the quickest RT of the event with a stellar .031 at 6.81/198.64 to stop new season champ Holman’s close .044 RT at 6.82/200.77. The final saw Lofgreen, .055 RT at 6.63/197.65 over Nasby’s 6.84/196.93.

In CIFCA action, Tony Trimp drove the ‘Happy Hour’ Nitro Funny Car to a close win over “Back in Black” using a .062 reaction time at 7.67 to the losing .080 RT and 7.66 seconds. It was that close!
