There was a note in the Phlegm Building mayo jar written on the back of a Cheerwine soda label this morning. It says that after a year off the Russell Miller-backed Pro Boost team intends to return to the PDRA Pro Boost wars in 2019 with son Tylor Miller in the seat of a new Andy McCoy Race Cars ‘79 Corvette.

Rage Fuel System’s Mike Kopchick, who is tuner and crew chief for the team, spent the 2018 season developing a new engine program. The new Rage/Noonan Hemi engine, is to be based on a Noonan 4.9 bore center block that has been modified by Kopchick.

In addition to racing in the PDRA series, the team also will support the Carolina Extreme Pro Mod Association.   [12/14/18]

Krista Baldwin, granddaughter of drag racing icon Chris Karamesines, has purchased the Nitro University A/Fuel dragster team for the 2019 season. Baldwin has been the driver for the team since 2016. She plans to make five races for her ownership debut.

“Every year since I was a little girl, my parents asked me what I wanted for Christmas and, of course, it was always, jokingly, my own racecar,” says the 25-year-old racer. “And now my wish finally came true.”

Baldwin attended the Nitro University to receive her Top Alcohol Dragster crossover license in 2015. She made her national event debut at the 2016 Winternationals with team owner Anthony Dicero. The 2019 Funny Car Chaos Best of Texas BBQ Sauce championship schedule has been released by series owner Chris Graves. In addition to the tracks that held events this season, three other tracks have been added for the second year of competition.

Mar. 29-30: North Star Dragway, Denton, TX

Apr. 27-27: Mo-Kan Dragway, Asbury, MO

May 31-June 1: Amarillo Dragway, Amarillo, TX

July 5-6: Alamo City Motorplex, San Antonio, TX

July 26-27: Central Illinois Dragway, Havana, IL

Sept. 6-7: US 131 Motorsports Park, Martin, MI

Sept. 27-28: North Star Dragway, Denton, TX

With the new points series comes a standardization of the event format and points structure. All events on the tour will qualify the quickest sixteen cars. Those cars will then be divided into two fields (A and B) of eight, and then run in a three-round elimination ladder. Points will be awarded equally in both fields allowing any racer, regardless of his qualifying field, to have a fair shot finishing in the top five at the end of the season. Points will be awarded to the driver, and each driver will count the best six of their seven totals to determine their final total.

Each event hosts a $25,000 payout including all sixteen qualified spots and tow money for the first two alternates. The 'A' field will pay $5,000 to win and 'B' field will pay $3,000 to win. The Best of Texas BBQ Sauce Championship will award the top five points finishers and the Champion will claim the ultimate bragging rights and $5,000 for their accomplishment.
