NHRA releases chief starter and marketing director

The Agent hears that Eric Lotz, Director of Field Marketing & Contingency Programs, and chief starter Mike Gittings have been let go by the NHRA.

Lotz was named Director of Field Marketing & Contingency Programs in 2001 and had worked in various marketing capacities at NHRA since 1993.

Gittings was named Chief Starter in 2016, only the fourth man in NHRA history to hold the title. The legendary Buster Couch (1955-96) was followed by Rick Stewart (1996-2011) and Mark Lyle (2012-16). Gittings was formerly chief starter in the NHRA’s Northwest Division and a certified member of the Safety Safari.

This comes on the departure last year of longtime NHRA and National Dragster photographer Teresa Long.

The Agent must say, Hmmm.

The track participates in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries program including 2018 track champions Chris Burden (Top), Alex Olessenski (Mod) and Kyla Feit, who went on to take the Junior Dragster World Championship in October.

Matusek turns to Garrett for turbocharger

After joining with Elite Motorsports for this season, Pro Mod racer and head of Aeromotive, Inc., Steve Matusek has tapped Garrett Advancing Motion as the source of turbochargers for his new Mustang.

“This is the best of the best in the class and we’re really putting the product to the test,” said Garrett Advancing Motion marketing specialist Tim Coltey. “It’s a great opportunity to see what our products will do. It’s really a big deal for Garrett to get involved at this level and it’s definitely the right opportunity and team to be involved with. When you look at Steve and just the whole program with Elite Motorsports and Shane (Tecklenburg) and Justin (Elkes), it really was a no-brainer for us.”

The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by J&A Service will begin the season at the Gatornationals on March 14-17.
