deal.
Already no one can get a Ford body except Force
and probably only Capps and Johnson will have
the new Monte Carlo bodies, although rumor has
it one other Fuel Flopper may get one of them.
What happens when the independents run out
of Firebird bodies? Maybe NHRA should step in
and "level" the playing field.
The Agent hears that Kurt Johnson is way behind
in building his new car for this season after
selling his Cavalier from last season. Rumor
has it that the new Pontiac Pro Stock body will
be built around the Australian Holden Monaro,
which is that country's version of the Pontiac
GTO! [1-14-2004]
HENKELMAN & BACA ADD LARRY
MEYER TO TEAM
David
Baca, partner and driver of the Henkelman &
Baca American Racing Top Fuel Dragster, has
added tuner and former driver Larry Meyer, from
Argyle, Texas, as a consultant to the team's
head wrench Johnny West. Meyer is best known
as the crew chief that spoiled John Force's
100 percent domination of the Funny Car titles
in the 1990s, when he tuned rookie Cruz Pedregon
to the 1992 Funny Car championship. He finished
the 2003 season assisting Top Fuel newcomer
and former alcohol dragster driver Bill Ancona,
tuning him to career best times and speeds.
The team will begin testing for the 2004 season
starting with the Las Vegas Blast-Off at The
Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, January 29-
31, followed by the National Time Trials at
Firebird International Raceway in Chandler,
Ariz., just outside Phoenix, February 7-8. (Jeff
