JUST THE FAX, PLEASE
Team owner Jim Oddy says that some changes
are coming for his Pro Modified team next year.
The team's Dodge Stratus is being finished
at Jerry Bickel Race Cars, but may need a little
modification since it was built to fit Fred
Hahn, who resigned as driver for the team due
to schedule conflicts with his day job.
"We're actively seeking and reviewing
resumes to find a new driver," Oddy said. "I'm
not going to be in a hurry to find a driver.
"I'm happy to announce that Fred will
still work with the team when his schedule
allows and may even attend some races in 2005," Oddy
continued. "His talent and expertise will
be a great benefit to us and I'm really glad
he'll still be around."
Still to be determined is whether the team
will compete at IHRA, NHRA or a combination
of both sanctioning bodies next season.
Alright drivers, dust up those resumes and
fax to 716-674-5459. (Jeff

OPPORTUNITY AT BANNING DRAG CITY
DRO got a call from an official in the West
Coast office of the Federal Aviation Administration
regarding a 20-acre parcel of land needed to
complete a proposed
dragstrip in the Banning
Pass area of Southern California.
The Feds originally purchased the tract in
1988 to facilitate airport expansion and had
initially given the nod to a 5-year conditional
use of the property for an entrance to the
developer's land to the possible dragstrip.
According to the FAA official, the developer
must now buy the land at "fair market
value" so the Feds can recoup their original
cash outlay plus appreciation. The Banning
Municipal Airport will not be using the land
for expansion any longer.
Despite what the developer, All American Racing,
LLC calls "bumps in the road," they
still assert the 10,000-seat Drag-City project
will bring $35 million annually into the local
economy. The developer now claims the project
will begin within 60 days and be ready to open
in April 2005.
According to a recent local radio interview
with the dragstrip promoters, when it's finished, "the
strip will probably end up being close to a
mile-long," with plans for the entire
dragstrip surface to be concrete, "200 feet
past the finish line, if possible."
The Agent is anxious to see what happens next. [10-21-2004]
