M.A.R. R.I.P.

Earlier the Agent spoke of the closing of Mid-America Raceways in Wentzville, MO. That brought some photos from Bret Kepner, who attended one of the last races. See A Fond Farewell in Features. [11-17-2004]

FOUR-SECOND TIMES COMING FOR A/FD?

Mitch Meyers of Hermiston, Oregon is the 2004 NHRA World Champion for the Alcohol Dragster class, which he won driving a nitromethane-burning, fuel-injected dragster (slightly confusing, huh?). A tip of the Agent's fedora to Mitch and his entire team and especially master-tuner and the Agent's old friend Steve Boggs for that accomplishment.

As impressive as winning the title was for Meyers, the Agent was more impressed with the 5.10/280 lap that Meyers ran at Pomona that was backed up by a 5.11 lap to set the class record. The Agent thinks the only thing that will keep this team and Boggs from breaking the four-second barrier for injected cars is the weight break/Index change that surely is coming in the mail from NHRA!

The only other Oregonian to win an NHRA World Championship was Elvon Kauffman who won the Heavy ET bracket title in 1980. [11-17-2004]
