LYNCH HITS 6.96/207 ON 10.5-INCH
TIRES!
Tim Lynch, the Woodstock, Georgia Outlaw 10.5 superstar
fresh off his record-breaking 4.546-second eighth-mile blast
at the ORSCA World Finals at Hunstville (AL) Dragway, rocked
the Street Car racing world with the first 6-second run
in the 10.5-inch tire ranks during the Shakedown Street
Car Shootout at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown,
NJ.
Lynch opened the event's qualifying period
with a wild, sideways ride which indicated to 2003 Fun Ford
Weekend Street Outlaw Champion to drop the power for the
remaining qualifying attempt. After a relatively slow 1.21
60-feet time, Lynch's twin turbo 417-inch 2000 Mustang rocketed
to a 4.64 eighth-mile ET and a 7.007-second blast at 207.22
mph for the pole position. In the event's opening round,
Lynch obliterated opponent John Ullman's New York '93 Mustang,
Who had qualified on the 16-car bump spot with a 7.60),
by unleashing an historic 6.966/207.43. Although the run
was initiated with a 1.157 60-feet ET, the eighth-mile ET
on the pass was a 4.605...still six hundredths slower than
his Huntsville mark! The run earned a $2,000 from event
organizer David Hance, who qualified his own New York Motorsports
Mustang thirteenth with a 7.49.The closest any competitor
came to Lynch's record pace was a 7.16/193 effort from second
qualifier David Sexton's mega-inch nitrous-aided '66 Nova.
Unfortunately, E-Town's season-ending event was marred by
heavy fog which forced a late start on raceday and eventually
kept any rounds beyond the first from being completed. Competitors
agreed to split the $5,000-to-win purse among the eight
remaining qualifiers. BK.

ORSCA HONORS 2004 CHAMPS

Randy Conner (l), crew chief for
Outlaw 10.5 champ Jack Barfield, accepts a plaque and
$100 check from DRO's Ian Tocher after being named 2004
ORSCA Drag Racing Online Crew Chief of the Year. |
Wrapping up its inaugural season, the Outlaw Racing Street
Car Association (ORSCA) held its racer banquet Nov. 20,
at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon.
In addition to clinching the Outlaw 10.5 championship by
winning the final race at Huntsville Dragway two weeks earlier,
Jack Barsfield was named ORSCA's Man of the Year. Joining
Barsfield at the winner's podium was his crew chief, Randy
Conner, who was named Crew Chief of the Year in an award
sponsored by Drag Racing Online. Other class winners were
Shannon Ragsdale in Limited Street, Scott Taylor in EZ Street,
Jody Voyles (6.0), and Dennis Smith (7.0).
PSCA FINALS RAINED
OUT
On the other side of the country, meanwhile, the Pacific
Street Car Association's World Finals at the Strip in Las
Vegas was washed out after qualifying ended with Ed Thornton's
turbo '57 Belair on the Pro Street pole at a tremendous
6.51/220. The decision was made to complete the final race
of 2004 at the opening PSCA event of 2005 (!) leaving all
undecided eliminator championships hanging for another three
months. Ironically, many west coast racers making a return
to southern California were stopped in their tracks by a
freak snowstorm which virtually closed Interstate 15 in
Victorville, CA! [11-22-04]
