1,000 HP ON PUMP GAS AND
CARBS
Thousand horsepower street engines aren't all
that unusual but a thousand-hp 700-inch mountain
motors with carbs that burn pump gas gets the
Agent's attention. Seems like IHRA Pro Stock
guru Sonny Leonard had a customer that wanted
one of his mountain motors for his street car
but the thing had to burn real 92 octane pump
gas. Sonny built the nearly 700 cubic inch motor
and it made over 1,000 hp and 1,000 ft lbs of
torque. Now that's a street cruiser motor! Now
if the Agent can just get Sonny to put one in
the Agent's cherry '53 Nash Rambler. [6-18-2004]
GOING TO THE SUBMARINE RACES?
Driver Marcus Birt and his VIP Racing team
probably thought they had a prime parking spot
near the top end of Macon Dragway, but that
was before four inches of rain fell in the wee
hours before the June 13 OSCRA Outlaw 10.5 race
and turned the pits into an impromptu Lake Macon.
Birt's 2003 Camaro and several other racecars
were thoroughly soaked by the deluge (note the
high-water mark), forcing the race to be postponed
to a yet-to-be-determined date. The Agent joins
OSCRA in applauding crew members from Jason
Motes' team and CG Performance for going well
beyond the call of duty to help out their fellow
racers. (Photo by Ian
