A WEIGHTY ISSUE

The agent hears that four or five of the top Pro Stock teams that qualified at the Columbus event were subjected to a teardown to weigh their pistons, wristpins, valves, rods etc. Included in those that were tore down were, you guessed it, Greg Anderson and Jason Line. The agent’s source tells him that there were a couple of teams whose components didn’t meet the minimum weight. We won’t reveal their names but interestingly enough Greg Anderson and Jason Line’s components meet the minimum weight standards that NHRA required by the time the Pro Stock teams get to Denver. The agent hears from a very good source that some Pro Stock teams will be using some very light weight valve train components built of exotic materials in their engines until the new rules take effect at Denver. BERYLLIUM VALVE SEATS

Several sources have reminded the agent most likely every Pro Stock cylinder head currently in use has valve seats made from a Beryllium alloy. Seems like those seats last twice as long as conventional seats especially when used with titanium valves. The agent wonders if NHRA is going to the use of those seats for health reasons? DRO BACKED OUTLAW PRO MODS AT GATEWAY THIS WEEKEND

The second of a four-race Pro Mod series at Gateway International Raceway will happen Saturday night June 19th. Pro Mod vet and DRO favorite Donnie Little (he put the

magazine’s name and logo on the front spoiler without charging us) won the first of four CMTS Outlaw Pro Mod shootouts at Gateway International Raceway May 22. Little drove his nifty ‘69 Camaro to the win in the final using a 4.307/173 lap to beat Ed Hall, who ran a 4.334/167 losing effort. The second race promises a little more action as Little tells DRO that some 17 cars have entered for the Saturday night 1/8th program including NHRA Pro Mod tour regular Dave Ray driving his dad, Stan Ray’s blown ’63 Vette, which is capable of low four-second 1/8th mile times. Don’t miss this race. DRO will be doing a full race report of the event in DRO next week. [6-15-2004]
