Nevins's '33 Willys "Speedy 2" was stolen out
of his locked trailer at the SIR ractrack on Saturday,
Dec. 3, during an event.
Nevins said, "Somebody picked the trailer locks
(not busted or pried) just skillfully picked. Took out
my little yellow pit '41 Willys, rolled out the '33 and
loaded it into an enclosed trailer."
The thief then returned the pit vehicle to the trailer
and didn't take tools or anything else. The Willys has
a 434 injected small block. Be on the lookout for the
car or engine. For more information go to www.gassermadness.com.

NEW BILLET BLOCK
As
many of you know, one of the latest tricks for engine
builders is the engine block carved out a solid piece
of billet. Those kinds of blocks are now mandatory for
NHRA fuel cars. Many other racers and engine builders
would like to have the option of using a billet block,
but the delivery time from the CNC shop supplying the
blocks is currently around eight months.
Dart Engineering’s Dick Maskin (shown) had a request
from a well-known engine builder who inquired if Maskin
could manufacture some billet blocks for him. Maskin took
it as a challenge and in short order came up with a program
to build billet blocks. His first blocks will be of a
GM design that will accept all current wedge heads, plus
the Sonny Leonard Chevy-Hemi head and can be made with
or without water jackets. Maskin was seen huddling with
Pro Mod engine builder Jim Oddy who races using a Chrylser
Hemi. Could a billet Hemi be in the works? The line forms
at the right. (Darr Hawthorne photo) [12-05-2005]
