MORE NHRA PRO MOD NEWS

Mike Ashley called editor Jeff Burk yesterday just to update his on-going efforts to bring a Pro Mod series to NHRA in 2006 and clarify a few things. He wanted to make it very clear that his current sponsors would support his Pro Mod team regardless of with which sanctioning body it runs and that his sponsorship money wasn’t going to back the series.

"He also gave me some off the record information regarding the series that solidifies my belief there indeed will be an NHRA Pro Mod series in 2006 as stated in the News and Analysis piece than ran on Dec. 20," Burk said. "You’ll have to wait for Ashley’s PR folks to release the official who, what, and where info on the series but based upon what I was told I’m still confident that a series will happen." THE UNDERTAKER RETURNS!

Agent 1320 got the news that veteran driver Tommy Gray, who was last seen on the Pro Mod scene on a full time basis driving his “Grave

digger” supercharged ’41 Willys, will be returning to Pro Mod competition full time in 2006. The Agent’s Carolina operative reports that Roy Hill and Gray have teamed up for the coming season.

Since Roy Hill’s school is the official drag racing school for the ADRL, the Agent assumes that (ala WWE) “Finally the 'Gravedigger' has come back to the ADRL. Can you smell the rotting flesh of his opponents?” Cue the flash-pots and music! [12-22-2005]

CARLSON, SCHUMACHER DENY PRO STOCK RUMORS

Evidently everyone except Shaun Carlson and Don Schumacher have heard that the Sport Compact star has signed a deal to drive for Team Schumacher in 2006. The Agent has been hearing the rumor for some time and evidently so has everyone else. Word has it Carlson (above, left) even got a call from NHRA’s National Dragster about his "deal."

The Agent called both Carlson and Schumacher directly and was told by both that there was no deal. Then one of the Agent's operatives called to say that Roy Hill had tried to hire Carlson to drive his Pro Mod and was told that he was under contract to Schumacher. The Agent’s West Coast operative called Carlson again about the rumor. His answer was "My heart is with MOPAR and wherever Kevin Miller (Mopar Senior Brand Manager Performance Parts) wants to steer me is where I want to go."

Well now, that certainly clears up everything for the Agent. (Zak Hawthorne photo) [12-22-2005]

HILLARY WILL FEATURED IN 'CAR AND DRIVER'

Hillary Will, who will drive the KB Racing-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel Dragster on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series in 2006, is featured in the January 2006 issue of Car and Driver magazine. The article is entitled “Sports: Fast Women: Racing’s raciest women and where to meet them. Take a number- No crowding.” by Ted West. Will is highlighted along with six other women drivers – Erin Crocker, Sarah Fisher, Deborah Renshaw, Allison Duncan, Allison MacLeod and Katherine Legge. IHRA APPROVES JEFFERS’ PRO MOD 'CUDA BODY

Okay, okay, we know you're sick of looking at the body, but since it has been approved for IHRA by Mike Baker, according to builder Larry Jeffers, the Agent is going to run one more picture. And in the interest of complete disclosure, Jeffers doesn’t advertise with DRO other than a Speed Connection ad. [12-22-2005]

LOOK IT UP!

With all of the drag racer blogs being added to various websites recently, the Agent can't help but point out that a new word has entered the official vocabulary. The online version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines blogorrhea: pathologically excessive (and often incoherent) blogging. [12-22-2005]
