AN OLDIE, BUT A GOODIE
On April 9th a group of nostalgia racers and cackle cars
held their first annual Standard 1320 drag race event at
Inyokern Dragstrip. Run by the Dust Devils Car Club of
Ridgecrest, CA, Inyokern is the oldest continuously-operating
dragstrip in the world. The show was a big hit with local
fans as they got a chance to visit with drag racing legends
such as Red Greth in the cool Speed Sport roadster and
Mr. Flathead, John Bradley. [4-22-2005]

SIGN HERE, MR. EDELBROCK
Veteran automotive journalist Tom Madigan has written
a new book about the Edelbrock family and their influence
on hot rodding and performance. "Edelbrock: Made in
USA" also features hundreds of rare historic photos.
It begins with Vic Edelbrock Sr. and his journey to SoCal
from Kansas, continuing with the building of Edelbrock
Equipment Company from a simple shop at the rear of a gas
station to a leader in the hot rodding and motorcycle aftermarket.
Woven throughout the book is the history of racing, from
the first drag race near Santa Barbara to the dry lakes.
Vic Jr. (pictured) was Grand Marshall of the recent Las
Vegas NHRA POWERade event, signing copies of the new book
with his wife Nancy and daughter Camee. (Darr
