CHARLOTTE SNAFU
The Agent received a couple of calls this week about a
rumored drag strip being built at Bruton Smith’s
Lowe's Motor Speedway. Well, the Agent went to work and
tracked down the rumor to a Charlotte newspaper reporter
who was in Bristol to cover the NHRA event.
The Charlotte construction project he referred to is actually
a large “parking relocation” project at the
speedway. According to a Speedway spokesperson, "We
are not building a dragstrip and have no plans to build
one adjacent to the Speedway; we are making our parking
better." (Darr

MORE SPECS FROM NHRA
Here is the latest update from the NHRA Tech Department.
"As part of the continuing evolution of the engine
moratorium, the NHRATechnical department is in the process
of compiling a complete list of Top Fuel and Funny Car
cylinder head manufacturers that are allowed in NHRA competition,
based on the acceptable design outlined in the 2005 NHRA
Rulebook. Any team or manufacturer that wants to be considered
as an NHRA approved supplier of Top Fuel and Funny Car
cylinder heads must contact the NHRA Technical Department
and submit a sample cylinder head representative of what
is currently being used. The cylinder head must be

by NHRA no later than July 1, 2005. After this date, only
submitted and accepted
cylinder heads will be allowed in
NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car competition. Any and all information
and/or products presented to NHRA will be proprietary information
and for official use only.
"The NHRA engine moratorium is intended to control
the escalating cost of drag racing at the sport's highest
level, while at the same time maintaining equity between
the differing manufacturers. The engine component and cylinder
head moratorium includes, but is not limited to, engine
blocks, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, fuel injectors,
and superchargers. This includes any redesign, reconfiguration,
and/or modifications to existing components. Any changes
to the engine or related components must be submitted to
NHRA with all specifications, measurements, and guidelines
for possible consideration."
The Agent is noticing a certain trend here. [5-5-2005]
