TESTING SCHEDULE FOR THE STRIP AT VEGAS

The Agent's pick as the best bargain in all of drag racing is pre-season testing for nitro cars begins at one of the Agent’s favorite places Las Vegas, or to be specific "The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway."

Pre-season testing at Vegas begins with the fifth annual Nitro Blast-Off January 20-22, 2006. The cool thing is that nearly all of the NHRA teams show for these test sessions and the ticket price is a serious bargain. Two weeks later the Strip has another test session on February 4-6. February’s Last Chance Test Session is also open to bracket, nostalgia and racers from other sanctioning groups. The Agent recommends a three-week vacation to Vegas with weekend nitro testing at the Strip at LVMS as the bookends and if you’re buying your tickets in advance tell LVMS honcho Chris Blair the Agent sent ya. . .on second thought you might be better off to disavow any relationship with Agent 1320.

Entry forms for both test sessions are available by contacting Mark Dawson, Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Drag Racing Operations Coordinator at (702) 632-8264. Event fliers will be distributed at the Oct. 20-23 ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals. [9-27-2005]

NEW MOPAR PRO MOD FOR WOOD, CRITCHLEY

Agent 1320 has learned that Dave Wood's AMS Staff Leasing Team has contracted with Jeffers Pro Cars to have a new Barracuda Pro Mod built using one of brand new '70 'Cuda bodies designed and built by owner Larry Jeffers and his crew. According to Jeffers, the shop is just a week or so away from pulling the first of the radical 'Cuda bodies out of the mold with the car scheduled to be delivered to the AMS team by the middle of January 2006.

The Agent has to wonder if engine builder, tuner and supercharger guru Darren Mayer of DMPE fame is going to put a Hemi in the 'Cuda for a powerplant instead of the wedge he currently is using?

On an entirely different subject, the fact that Dave Wood has ordered a new car for the 2006 season would seem to favorably indicate his intention to continue racing, and might lead some to think that he is going to keep backing the NHRA Pro Mod exhibition series for the near future. NEW TUNERS FOR JIM ODDY’S PRO MOD TEAM

Although they seem to go unnoticed by most people, future drag racing Hall-of-Famer Jim Oddy credits his twin sons Dan and Dave with the engine/clutch tune-up that garnered the Summit Racing Equipment-backed team the new IHRA Pro Mod ET record of 6.050 at the Budds Creek race last weekend.

"When we went out in the first qualifying round and ran a 6.17, I felt we weren’t going to be bumped so I told the boys they could try the tune-up they had been working on for a while," Oddy said. "We put their tune-up in the car and it ran a 6.098! We came back and my kids looked at the graphs and said to me 'We need to do this here, here and here.' We made the changes they wanted and took the car to the line. I thought it might run a 6.07 something, but it jumped right up on the tires and ran 6.05 flat at 236.46!"

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Dave and Dan Oddy have the tuning ability they have. The both hold degrees in engineering and both have been touring and working on Dad’s cars since they were teenagers. They had to learn something hanging around Dad for all of those years. Now you know why Jim Oddy always tells people that he wouldn’t be still racing if it weren’t for his sons. And please don't ask us who is who, we still can't tell them apart.
