ANOTHER CHARGER IN THE NEWS

Mark Stuckey, from Northern California's Cameron Park, is busy with his crew preparing the "Nitro Charger" Dodge Daytona for 2006 Goodguys Nitro Funny Car competition. Stuckey will race the flopper with crew chief Stephen Knight tuning the de-stroked Keith Black Stage III Hemi.

The car was previously owned and driven by Rocky Pirrone, but its history goes back to Nelson Carter and Martin Broeders who raced the Dodge in Canada. The chassis was used for a Jungle Jim Liberman Monza tribute car in 1997. The pipe was originally built by Jerry Rightsell in Texas. [9-27-2005]

LEGENDARY TEXAS TRACKS CLOSING; NEW ONES OPENING

One of the Agent’s old buddies from Texas called to say that a couple of old dragstrips in the Lone Star state are closing including the track at Sealy, which is close to Houston, and the legendary Temple Academy Dragway in Temple. Almost all of the stars of Texas drag racing have made a lap at Temple Academy Dragway at sometime in their careers.

Our source also told us that the recently opened quarter-mile track at Lufkin is doing well and that he believes that an individual is currently building a new, all-concrete quarter-mile facility in the Dallas area, supposedly pretty close to Billy Meyer’s Motorplex. Rumors are that some racers are trying to find someone to re-open Temple Academy, but our source doesn’t think it will happen. Including the infamous “Yellow Belly” dragstrip between Dallas and Ft. Worth, there are almost 30 operating dragstrips in the state of Texas! [9-27-2005]

OH, YOU MEAN IT’S THAT BLUE MAX

The photo we ran yesterday in 1320 notes isn’t the Worsham family’s version of the famed Raymond Beadle flopper. The photo we ran is of the 1975-76 car. Evidently Worsham’s is a latter version but the Boisvert car is an original body. The Agent simply doesn’t care about the Blue Max deal any longer. Unveil them, run them, park them or burn them, but the Agent is done with the Blue Max drama until one of them makes a pass under power, burning nitro for 1320 feet. Case closed. [9-27-2005]

VON SMITH UPDATE

Rumor has it (and we stress the word rumor here) that one of the Agent’s favorite drivers, Von Smith, could be coming back next season if he can get the funding and team together and, if he does, he will be re-united with old crew chief Howard Moon. It's another rumor that makes only a little sense since Howard Moon (the Agent thinks) is under contract to Tommy Lipar Racing. The Agent believes the part about Smith coming back, but Moon leaving TLR doesn’t make a lot of sense. (Ron Lewis photo) [9-27-2005]
