PROJECT STREET
FX ENGINE UPDATE
The
engine for DRO's Project Street FX Chevy II is well under
way and just about complete, but due to a few clearance
issues the dyno testing is running later than planned
on the 468-inch Chevy big block. As we expected, the guys
at JMS Racing Engines in Monrovia have carefully fit the
enormous 315cc Air Flow Research aluminum cylinder heads
with 2.250” intake valves and 1.880” exhaust
valves to the new JE aluminum pistons after a couple of
precision "fly cuts" to the domes.
Unfortunately, we accidentally ordered a
Gen V deep sump oil pan from Moroso Performance Products
when we actually needed a Gen IV pan. So we're taking
advantage of the current Jeg's FREE 1-2 Day Nationwide
Delivery promotion to get the 9-quart replacement. Look
for our first tech report in late October. (Darr

DRO NOW SANITIZED
FOR YOUR PROTECTION
After getting a few emails about the DRO store's (perceived)
lack of security, publisher Jeff Burk coughed up the bucks
for the "vig" and paid to have the warning removed.
Trust us (and GoDaddy.com) -- the DRO store is secure.
So order stuff already! Don't forget that Christmas will
be here before you know it. Have you seen our lovely new
denim DRO caps? [10-04-2005]
WORKIN' FOR FREE?
DRO reader "Rapid" Randy Baker
took Virgil Hartman up on the opportunity to crew for
the race team at the NHRA Chicago event. He sent us a
couple of photos along with this note: "Here is what
I did last weekend! Notice the 'Rapid' sign over my head
in the pits shot! I am the guy doing the right rear tire
in the other photo." No word on whether Baker will
be joining the tour permanently.

TORCH FLICKERS?
Word comes to the Agent
that Paul Le Sage, known far and wide as "Torch"
to racers, fans and his friends, will be ankling his position
with Lincoln Welding. He will be back on tour in 2006
but in what capacity isn't yet known. When the Agent knows
something more we'll let you in on it. Le Sage will be
available for the remainder of the 2005 racing season
at the Lincoln Welding Display on the NHRA National Event
Manufacturer's Midway and will also continue in an advisory
safety position to NHRA as he has for over 20 years.
