EXPLOSIVE ACTION FROM SANTA POD

The low buck Wright Racing team had their second major engine explosion in three outings this year while testing at the season ending National Finals at England's Santa Pod Raceway over the weekend. With driver Darryl Bradford instructed to 'run it to the eighth,' signs of ignition in the wrong place was evident at the hit of the loud pedal, and, after a couple of pops and bangs, the motor self destructed at the 60-foot mark leaving the team with a lot of work to do over the winter break. Spectacular and a brief moment of warmth for your correspondent over an otherwise cold weekend. (photos by Ivan Sansom) [10-05-2005]

THE AGENT PREDICTS 5-SECOND PRO MOD PASSES AT ROCKINGHAM, DALLAS

A look at the three-day weather forecast for the NHRA race at the Texas Motorplex and the IHRA race at "the Rock"

indicate highs in the upper sixties and low seventies, and lows in the high forties and low fifties at both tracks. Those are the air temps that have historically delivered five-second Pro Mod times and most of the current speed and ET all time bests for legal Pro Mods.

If Pro Mod fans (which the Agent is) are going to see a five-second lap this year, the odds are prohibitive that it will happen this weekend at one of those two palaces of speed.

If the Agent was forced to make a prediction as to which track would produce the best speeds and Ets, he'd have to go out on a limb and go with the all-concrete quarter mile of Billy Meyer's 'Plex only because the AMS supercharged Pro Mods weigh in at just 2600 lbs and can spin the blowers 29 percent overdrive while the IHRA guys have to weigh in at 2700 and can only spin their blowers 20 percent overdrive. The Agent would bet that Howard Moon and Chuck Ford are doing the happy dance right now. [10-05-2005]

LISA KUBO IN A TOP FUEL CAR?

While DRO photographer/writer Bret Kepner opined in one of the captions for his photos from Chicago that Lisa Kubo was rumored to be in line to drive a Fuel Coupe for Frankie Pedregon, one of the Agent's sources tells us that it's more likely Kubo would drive a Top Fuel dragster instead.
