GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS FOR NHRA
PRO MODS
Mike Ashley apparently is very close to signing a sponsor
for an NHRA Pro Mod series for the 2006 season and perhaps
beyond. Ashley went on a chat room and said that the deal
was imminent. Although nothing official has been released,
the Agent hears that the principal backer for the series
will be Roger McComb's RV and a new mail order company
reportedly to be named RPM that Mr. McComb is starting.
Reportedly both Dave Wood's AMS Staff Leasing company
and Kenny Nowling, president of the rival Pro Mod sanctioning
body the American Drag Racing League, will have some involvement
with the NHRA series should the deal come to pass.
One company that won't be a part of the NHRA program
will be the Jegs mail order company, which had originally
pledged $100,000 for a winner-take-all shootout at the
end of the season. According to a Jegs spokesman, the
Ashley group asked them to bow out because their involvement
would be a conflict. Hopefully an official announcement
will be coming soon. (photo courtesy

VANDERGRIFF/UPS TOP FUEL DEAL
CLOSER?
Veteran Top Fuel competitor Bob Vandergriff's long negotiations
with United Parcel Service to sponsor a Top Fuel operation
may be getting very close to being official. DRO sources
report that NHRA's Gary Darcy and John Siragusa are at
UPS headquarters for a meeting. UPS coming into the sport
of drag racing sponsoring a Top Fuel car can only be beneficial
for everyone involved. [1-18-2006]

Comp Cams and TCI will be the title rights sponsors of
two Outlaw 10.5 and Outlaw Pro Mod events. Memphis Motorsports
Park will host a $100,000 bracket race on March 30-April
1 and what is billed as "The Biggest, the Baddest
and the Richest Outlaw Race in History" will be April
6-9 at Huntsville Dragway in Huntsville, Ala. The Huntsville
race will pay $50,000 to the Outlaw 10.5 winner and $20,000
to the Outlaw Pro Mod champ.
"These are big events, and it was important for
us to be involved in such significant competitions,"
said Stanley Poff, product manager for TCI. "The
Outlaw 10.5 and Outlaw Pro Mod classes of competition
have become premiere platforms for drag racing, and many
of these highly competitive racers are dedicated users
of our parts." [1-18-2006]
