ALCOHOL CLASS GETS PAID THE SAME 1980-2000

Frank Manzo told the Agent that when he won his first alcohol class national event in 1980 (for the record he won that race in a AA / Altered at the Sportsnationals beating Mike Kosky) he was paid $13,600. Some 20 years later he won the 2000 Gatornationals FM / FC class and picked up a cool 13,200. The Agent wants to know: Where is the money?

IT’S THE SCOOP!
The Agent hears that ace tuner Jimmy Prock is crediting some of the new-found performance of the Joe Amato-driven “Prock Rocket” to the new scoop they are using. It is the same Tim Gibson / Bill Miller injector hat combination first used by Dale Armstrong on the Miller Lite car last year.

As reported here earlier the scoop itself makes the blower 2-3% more efficient. Hence Amato’s 4.563, which is the best ever on 90% nitro fuel.

WHY IS THIS MAN SMILING?

ANOTHER CANNON FOR THE OAKLEY CAMP!

Scotty Cannon recently revealed that his son Scotty Cannon, Jr. will join his team as the driver of a second fuel Funny Car. Cannon, Jr. has been working on his dad’s crew but will be getting his license very soon. This continues the trend to two car fuel teams. There are currently three two-car Funny Car teams and four Top Fuel teams that run two car operations at least part of the time. Don Prudhomme of course has a fuel dragster and a fuel coupe.

SAAB! SOB!

Agent 1320 saw what might be the ultimate Yuppie car at his recent visit to Virginia Motorsports Park. John Fiorini from Dalton, MA brought his ‘93 Saab alky funny car to the event and qualified it into the dreaded 13th spot with what may be the quickest Saab pass in drag racing history: 6.63 / 207.40.

Unfortunately, the team met Frank Manzo in the first round and their 6.74 couldn’t quite match up to Manzo’s 5.57.

Correction: According to Andy Rogers, the editor of eurodragster, Sweden’s Leif Helander has been running Saab Top Alcohol Funny Cars for years and got his current ride into the fives at Santa Pod Raceway (UK) last September.

The Agent stands corrected. Oh yeah, the WORLD wide web…
