CINCO DE MAYO DRAG BOATS ON TNN
Those of you who have been wondering what Karen Raffa has been doing
since leaving IHRA can find out by watching TNN Sunday, May 5. The International
Hot Boat Association race from Phoenix is scheduled to be shown at 10:30
a.m. Eastern time(check your local listings to be sure.) Karen is vice-president
of sales for the Albuquerque-based organization.
DRO will carry coverage of some of their events in future issues. It's
a good thing these vehicles are in the water, because they're HOT! (Sorry,
the Agent just couldn't resist.) [5-2-2002]
POWERADE BECOMES NASCAR OFFICIAL SPORTS DRINK
Powerade has just been named the official sports drink of NASCAR. On
Wednesday (May 2), the previous official sports drink, Gatorade, said
it will not renew its sponsorship of NASCAR, which dates to 1984. Pepsico
owns Gatorade, the biggest-selling sports drink and a longtime NASCAR
sponsor. Coca-Cola, which owns the smaller POWERade brand, has had a
relationship with NASCAR for several years. Besides POWERade, the company
has three other "official" designations with NASCAR: Coca-Cola, Dasani
water and Minute Maid juices. Cost of the sponsorship was not made known.
Guess it's a good thing there is no problem with sports drinks being
involved with more than one racing series or NHRA might have to go shopping
for a sponsor again. Whew. [5-2-2002]
