STAY TUNED . . .

The Learning Channel's Emmy-nominated TV show "JUNKYARD WARS" is back for its fourth season, and two teams from California have been selected to compete. The "Wenches with Wrenches" and "Custom Cruisers" will be pitted against each other doing battle in the So Cal junkyard this week. If you haven't seen Junkyard Wars, it's an engineering contest of harebrained schemes, incredible tools, welding, tubing, motors, and lots and lots of duct tape.

This particular show will team Pammy Utterback (nostalgia drag journalist and Neptuna's band star), Gerilyn Steiner (daughter of Gerry Steiner, 2002 Sonoma Goodguys Top Fuel Champ), Alicia Stirling (chassis fabricator at Stirling Race Cars), and a male expert brought in to consult on their build-up. They are pitted against an all-male team of Northern California custom car rodders.

Darr Hawthorne is on location for DRO and will be filing a report in our "Off The Track" Department for this unique competition of Man vs. Woman vs. Machine. Junkyard Wars can be seen on cable television's TLC Wednesdays from 9-10 pm, as well as Sundays at 6:00 and 7:00 pm (Eastern). No air-date has been set for this vehicle-building contest, but we'll keep you posted. [5-2-2002]
