CRAFTSMAN NHRA SCHOLARSHIP WINNER ANNOUNCED

Race teams aren't the only ones to win in drag racing. Each year 21 deserving students, three from each of NHRA's seven divisions, are awarded $1,000 scholarships under a program administered by NHRA and funded by Sears Craftsman tools as an incentive for graduating high school seniors to continue their education in automotive technology or motorsports. From that group, one student is selected for a larger scholarship to cover all expenses, up to $25,000.

This year the recipient is Shane Whitbeck of Sarasota, Florida. He will receive the scholarship in ceremonies June 30 prior to the final eliminations on at the Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison, Illinois.

Since it began, the Craftsman NHRA scholarship program has benefited more than 200 students. For more information or applications for 2003 scholarships, contact the NHRA's Youth and Education Services Department at (626) 914-1491, or online at nhra.com. [6-21-2002]

WELCOME TO THE WORLD

We don't normally do things like this, but here is a photo of new daddy Kevin Nowling and daughter Rebecca, who was born on June 11. Kevin is brother of Kenny Nowling, who is the subject of DRO's June InnerView.

Don't cry honey, you'll be old enough to see the NHRA Pro Mods race at St. Louis next year. [6-21-2002]
