CASTELLANA
ADDS ASSOCIATE SPONSOR
There should be some good eating in the Awesome
Motorsports pits next year. The two-car Pro
Mod team of Mike Castellana and Shannon Jenkins
have added Parmalat, a producer of food products,
to their current Western Beef sponsor. Parmalat
distributes dairy products, beverages, canned
vegetables and sauces. The association with
Castellana's team marks Parmalat's first involvement
with drag racing, although they have previously
sponsored a Formula One race team. Castellana
is a supermarket chain owner in Westbury, NY.
For the record, the Agent likes his steaks
rare.

OAKLEY SPREADING SPONSORSHIP
AROUND IN 2004
It's no secret that Pro Mod star Scotty Cannon will be running the entire AMS
Staff Leasing Pro Mod schedule for 2004 with
sponsorship from Oakley. The Agent had heard
that Gary Scelzi's Dodge would get primary sponsorhip
from Oakley but recent information leads

the
Agent to believe that Scelzi's main sponsor
will be Dodge. Instead of supporting a single
car, Oakley will get signage on all five of
the Team Schumacher vehicles.
Speaking of the Mohawked-one, the Agent hears
that Cannon was very close to putting a Fuel
Coupe deal together with Scott Kalitta but the
deal fell through at the last minute when financing
couldn't be secured. The Agent wouldn't bet
against Cannon getting a Fuel ride next year
yet. [11-15-2003]
DISCOVERY CHANNEL AND DRAG RACING?
Remember when no one knew who the hell Jesse James (the current Harley bike builder not the outlaw) was? Or who Paul and Paul Jr and Orange County Choppers were? Then along came the Discovery Channel, which started making one-hour shows out of these guys' lives at the shop and suddenly everyone in the world knows who they are and are wearing their apparel and these guys are making guest appearances on the Letterman Show. Could that same kind of fame be coming to Pro Mod and drag racing?
The Agent noticed a Discovery Channel logo
on the rendering of the GT-500 Carroll Shelby
Mustang Pro Mod that someone on the two-car
Mike Ashley team will drive next year and can't
help but wonder if there is some tie-in between
the Discovery Channel and the Unique Performance/InfiNet
Mustang. Wouldn't that be cool for drag racing
and Pro Mod if there was some kind of tie-in
between the two? [11-15-2003]
