Dragstock II

THE HOUSE OF HOOK CLAIMS ANOTHER VICTIM

The crew at Carolina Dragway take a great deal of pride in their track legendary traction and according to one local racer measure the quality of their track surface by how many race cars break the rear-end during an event. The latest victim of the “House of Hook” is Shannon Jenkins who bent a pinion in the rear-end on the first pass and blamed the traction of the track for the failure.

CLANTON WAS OUT NOW HE IS BACK

OK update your scorecards. The Swedish entry of Michael  Lindale  was in for Bil Clanton and made one lap. Now Clanton has borrowed a car from fellow competitor Bill Blackwell, a supercharged ‘Vette, and will be back in competition for the last session.

SIXTY FOOTER UPDATE

Josh Hernandez delivered yet another astounding sixty-foot time with a stellar .952 and Quain Stott had a .972.

THIS BARNEY ISN’T A DINOSAUR

You may think the car in this photo is just another ’41 Willys but this particular car has a serious pedigree. Tommy Mauney originally built and drove this car to an IHRA Championship, as did Shannon Jenkins. Ben Ledford couldn’t get it in the show which has a 4.09 bump for the Quick 8 show.  He ran a best of 4.134. (Roger Richards photo)

WORLD’S BEST PRO MOD SIXTY FOOT TIMES FOR HERNANDEZ?

Josh Hernandez had a .952 sixty-foot time Saturday night that raised a few eyebrows in the pits. His Howard Moon ’57 is about .030 quicker than any other cars times. In the first round Sunday he had a .958 against Mike Neal and delivered the AMS Low ET for the round and a bonus point. According to sources in the pits Moon said that the fact that his car was leaving at 6200 RPM accounted for the otherworldly short times.

Number-one qualifier John Lynam also set low E.T. of the meet with a 3.929 in his first-round win over Rodney Rosenstiel, who rounded out qualifying with a career-best 4-seconds flat pass in his ’69 Opel GT.
