ommy Mauney clinched to the title for the AMS team in the AMS vs. Outlaws Challenge. Mauney took out Mike Neal Sr. when Neal bulbed. That gave Mauney his sixth point of the event driving two cars. Josh Hernandez added insult to injury when he set Low Et and Top Speed of the round in defeating Lynam with a 3.963/18260 drubbing which also gave him six points out of a possible nine a single car and driver could earn. The final score was 23-15 AMS.

Round Two Of Dragstock Challenge In
The Books

fter two complete rounds of competition the score for both the AMS team and the Outlaws is all knotted up at 13 markers apiece. After the first round the AMS team scored seven points and the Outlaws six that was reversed for the second round and so as the teams prepare for the third round it is probably going to come down to the last pair which will be Lynam vs. Hernandez. Each man has earned his team three points in the first two rounds and they are the individual points earners for single car entries (Tommy Mauney has two cars entered and has earned four points for the AMS squad).

Lynam’s 3.974/185.46 win over Housley made him the first driver in the competition to get his team a three-point win due to the fact that he not only won his match but had Low ET and Top Speed of the session.

OUTLAWS LEAD BY ONE POINT AFTER FIRST ROUND OF CHALLENGE

fter the first round of the AMS vs. Outlaw Team Challenge the Outlaws lead the AMS racers by just one point 7 to 6. As is typical with the Dragstock race how the points total came about was unusual, entertaining and controversial. Ron Stokes drew first blood by trailering Shannon Jenkins’ Camaro that broke a rear end and shut off. It just gets more interesting from that point on; Scott Palmer red-lighted against Houck Randy Weatherford and Tommy Mauney had identical .057 lights but Weatherford’s 4.10 ET was good for the win. Frankie Taylor’s 4.033 lost to Todd Blaunecht’s 4.049 on Todd’s .058 light to Taylor’s tardy .091. Eddie Ware had the worst beat down the session when his 4.004 time lost to Herman Sheppard’s slower but winning 4.064. Josh Hernandez ran a 3.96 to drop Mike Neal Sr. and get the AMS team two points, and then Tommy Mauney dropped a troubled Bill Clanton who wounded his engine on the lap. Going into the last pairing between Quain Stott and John Lynam which was an encore presentation of the last night’s Pro Extreme final the Outlaws were leading the points. Quaint Stott stepped up to the plate like a Champ and delivered the AMS team two critical points by not only beating Mauney to the stripe but also setting Top Speed at 183.79. With Quain’s win the AMS team leads in points 7-6.

ADRL TEAM CHALLENGE COMPETITION PRE-RACE REPORT

t’s time for the annual Dragstock team competition the pits quickest 11 qualifiers from the AMS teams versus the quickest 11 Outlaw racers in a three-race round-robin style competition.

Essentially, each first pairing will feature the two closest qualifiers according to E.T. from each team. One point will be awarded for each round win, with additional points given for low E.T. and top speed of each round. Then, the competitors will be re-paired according to their first-round E.T.s.

They’ll do this three times and with each round having 13 points available, the first team to reach 20 will earn the Dragstock team title. Last year at Dragstock it came down to the last pairing with the AMS All-Stars pulling off the win, but earlier this year at Valdosta the Outlaws gained their revenge, so this will be a deciding match.
