car champ Randy Walls qualified 7th with a 6.920 at 202.74
and improved to a 6.82, losing to Mike Savage in the first
round. Walls changed to the required two-speed trans at
the Finals last season and he's just about finished with
his new, lighter chassis, hoping to have it ready for the
Goodguys Nitro Nostalgia Drags at Sonoma in April. (top

Ed Schwarz in the Estrus
Vega was in the #8 slot losing in the first round to event
runner-up Larry Pettit in the Crazy Horse Mustang. Schwarz
did double duty, making exhibition passes in Mike Sullivan's
beautiful red, white and blue Fiat fuel altered. (James
