"ICEMAN" COOLS THE COMPETITION

Shannon Jenkins won his second straight IHRA Pro Mod event by dropping number 16 qualifier and points leader Al Billes in the final. It was a classic Jenkins performance. He holeshotted every opponent he ran against with the exception of defending Pro Mod champ Mike Janis. Janis left first but Jenkins just powered by the supercharged car for the win. In fact, in the four laps that it took for Jenkins' nitrous aided car to get to the winners circle, he ran supercharged cars three times and beat them every time. They're going to have to start calling Jenkins "Butter" instead of "Iceman" because he sure is on a roll.

HOOVER WON'T SWITCH . . . YET

Ed Hoover told DRO that his new Tommy Mauney blown Pro Mod is just a few weeks away from being ready to race. But don't look for Hoover to soon exit the nitrous oxide 'Vette with which he has won two IHRA Pro Mod events.

"I'll start running a blown car when the weather at the races starts getting more favorable for the blown cars. Look for my blown car to debut sometime in September." Hoover added, "unless things in Pro Mod change drastically."

Roy Wasko's Pro Mod '68 Camaro didn't make the field, but gets our vote for best nitrous purge.

SUPER STOCK, STOCK, TOP STOCK

Len Laperriere from nearby Milan, Michigan drove his 427-powered "69 Camaro to a 9.86 in Super Stock competition.
