TOP STOCK
Monty Bogan Jr. will be the first to admit that
he changed everything he could change on his GM
Performance Parts-sponsored Top Stocker in an
attempt to get quicker. If it hadn't have been
for a superior reaction time from Kevin Helms
in the final round, Bogan might have started the
season with a victory.
"When we got here, we were already behind the
eight ball," Bogan said. "We changed everything
on the car...cam, converter, rocker arms, oil
and everything. We kept getting faster every
run."
While Bogan had been sharp on the tree throughout
eliminations, it was Helms that was better in
the final round with a .501, which gave him
a .029 cushion. The holeshot proved to be an
added insurance policy as Helms took the win
light with a 10.161, 129.77 while Bogan absorbed
the loss with a 10.171, 129.39.
