THERE'S POWER IN PIPES!
Evidently the Pro Stock community is finding
power in some new places these days. One team
that qualified very well told DRO that many
of the teams have been doing a lot of experimentation
with piston rings to get a little power, but
the area where many teams are really finding
a lot of power (60-80 hp) is with new headers.
And you thought it was just pipe.
Kurt Johnson claimed his
third Pro Stock victory of the season.
"I've never been on a run like this before,"
he said of his fourth straight final round appearance.

we're also making the right calls at the right
time." (David Allio photo)
BEWARE OF THE DART
You don't hear a lot about him these days,
but Richard Maskin of DART fame has probably
been actively racing Pro Stock longer than anyone
else. These days he is backing Texas driver
Taylor Lastor III. Maskin motors have won a
lot of Pro Stock races and championships and
his car's semi-final round appearance at Bristol
in 3500-ft air may indicate that he may be back
on track.
EDWARDS GOT THE LIGHT
Mike Edwards, from Broken Arrow, Okla., earned
a $1,000 bonus and the Motel 6 'Who Got the
Light' award when he defeated Taylor Lastor
by a 0.0014-second margin of victory in the
semi-final round of Pro Stock eliminations.
Edwards Lost the final round to Kurt Johnson.
NO REST FOR THE FORCE
Just in case you might think that the men who
work on John Force's personal Fuel coupe are
dogging it, DRO talked to one of the crew that
works on cylinder heads who said that the team
had been working 20-hour days the last two races
trying to fix whatever their problems are. These
guys are serious. (Jeff
