PAUL TAKES LOU FOR A RIDE
Paul Romine had one of his best weekends in
a while, getting to the semi's before losing
to eventual winner Doug Kalitta's stellar 4.48.
Romine carried Lou Cavalieri's name on the side
of the cockpit in honor of the racer/businessman
who died just days earlier.
GANN PROVES THERE IS A SUBSTITUTE
FOR CUBIC INCHES
Shawn Gann ran a stellar 7.05 in qualifying
at E-town on his 90+ cubic inch, carbureted
Suzuki and defeated Greg Treble in the final
with a 7.10 lap. On the other hand, G.T. Tonglet
ran a best of 7.11 with his 170 c.i., fuel-injected
Harley. Hmmm?
JUNGLE
JIM WAS AT E-TOWN
Berserko Bobby Doerrer was in the house at
E-Town with his buddy the late "Jungle Jim"
Liberman. Berserko is the one on the right.
The pair had just left Berserko Bob's Lounge
after a long night of partying.
WHIT GETS OFF THE 'SNIDE AT
E-TOWN; BEARD GETS NUMBER 40
Whit Bazemore (lead photo) has been knocking
on the door for most of the season, suffering
through some heartbreaking final round losses.
But all of that angst was erased when he got
a decisive win--the first one in over a year--at
E-town and the first Funny Car win for Dodge
since 1998. We think the win was also significant
for crew chief/tuner Lee Beard as it was his
40th career win as a crew chief.
