DOUG FLIES AT E-TOWN
In the Top Fuel semifinals, Doug Kalitta faced
off against Paul Romine. Romine ran a respectable
4.617-second, 310.13-mph lap, but it was not
nearly enough to compete with Kalitta's incredible
4.481-second, 328.62-mph blast in the other
lane. Kalitta's extraordinary effort stunned
the near-capacity crowd in Englishtown and re-set
the track's elapsed time record, which he had
set Saturday. The 4.481-second trip down the
track was also the quickest pass ever for Kalitta
and third quickest in NHRA history. Kalitta
now holds three of the top five quickest runs
ever.
STUNNER FROM GREG ANDERSON
The score board and the picture on the Motel
6 screen tells it all. Getting the 20 points
for setting the e.t. record at 6.67 put Greg
Anderson into the overall points lead by 10
points.

with Terry Adams in the eighth slot and Barry
in the 14th. The bad news is arch-rival Kurt
Johnson took home 50 large of Barry's cash by
winning the King Demon Crown.
KJ IS 'KING DEMON'
Kurt Johnson captured the King Demon Crown
title for the third time in his career when
he drove his ACDelco Chevy Cavalier to a run
of 6.753 seconds at 205.60 mph to beat Greg
Anderson, who lost traction and slowed to a
pass of 7.631 at 135.04. Johnson defeated Jeg
Coughlin and his father Warren Johnson before
knocking off Anderson in the final.
"We weren't great in the finals," Johnson admitted.
"We had a 6.75, but Greg said one of his tires
got out of the groove and it pushed him hard
towards the wall. That was pretty much it for
him and it allowed us to get the win."
