Not in the quick four was Gary Read (Haight
& Sullivan) 7.11, Mike Boyd (above) 7.44 at
194 mph (Boyd is a Nostalgia Fuel Alt, not unlimited),
Randy Eakins brand new yellow Fiat from Bradbury,
CA at 8.16, Jeff Diehl's "Witch Doctor" at 8.89,
and Randy Bradford's 9.18. Diehl, the defending
champion, just could not get the fearsome Fiat
to go down the track during qualifying.
In round one, Fassl and
Famous Amos must have found
something in the AZ based T roadster, as they
laid down Low ET
and Top Speed of the entire event at 5.70, 247.18
mph to defeat
Ruiz at 6.06, 228.83 mph.
In the final blast off of the AA/FA's, Greg
Daebelliehn (photo) cranked out a fine pass
of 5.80, 222.72 mph to narrowly defeat Fassl's
5.82 at an even faster 253.16 mph. Fassl also
had a face full of oil, making this a typical
Fuel Altered side by side pass, as the AA/FA's
just missed each other too!
Mitch King was in the consolation AA/FA race
with Jeff Diehl, and it was a sideways affair,
with King getting the win at 6.53 to a close
6.80. Never a dull moment with the Fuel Altereds!
PRO MOD
There was a full field Pro Modifieds made up
of entries from the West Coast Pro Mod Association
and any one else who had a Pro Mod.
Glen
Kerunsky and his bright yellow Tim McAmis-built
1957 Chevy led the qualifiers with a 6.50 at
217 mph.
Also cranking out some fifties were John Scialpi
6.50, Dennis Radford's Viper 6.52, Wayne Torkelson
Jr 6.55, Kip Dupruis' Buick at 6.57, and Kurt
Kuhn's 6.59. Danny Rowe's '38 Chevy and Lee
Smith's Oregon Vette both turned in 6.60's.
Joe Dehaney, Pat Stoken and Thomas Lee also
were on hand.
