"We just made a horrible run on that last one.
But, it was a great weekend for us. I have nothing
to complain about." --
Morgan after losing to K. Johnson in the semis
"That's the longest drive in drag racing --
running the entire quarter-mile with your opponent's
win light on. Everything just added up. The
track had gotten better, and the sun was off
the tree, which made those LED lights easier
to see. We got after it for the final, putting
some more clutch in it and raising the rpm's,
and came up ten thousandths of a second short."
-- Kurt Johnson on his
-.010 redlight start against Anderson in the
final round
"This one shows that we're for real. The first
one was great but it's like a pro golfer winning
a major -- unless you come back and validate
the first one then people can always say it
might have been a fluke. Today we proved that
we're no fluke." -- Anderson
on winning his second U.S. Nationals title
PRO STOCK BIKE
"Racing in the NHRA on a Pro Stock Bike is
all I ever wanted to do and now it's finally
here. Ever since I saw Terry Vance and Dave
Schultz, I've had it in my mind that someday
I would race a Pro Stock Bike. To top it all
off I get to debut at the U.S. Nationals on
a Kawasaki." -- Josh Helvie,
who works as an investment advisor with John
Hancock, before attempting to qualify for his
first race. He wound up .107 seconds short and
26th of 38 entries
"Reggie [Showers] got by me in the K&N Shootout
last weekend, winning the one-dollar standing
bet we have every time we go to the line against
each other. He won the dollar, and the race,
so obviously I have revenge on my mind. It's
payback time." -- Craig
Treble before losing to eventual event winner
Showers in round one
"This is the leg that kicked that ass!" --
Reggie Showers while holding aloft one of his
prosthetic legs in victory lane after beating
Geno Scali in the special-event K&N Pro Stock
Bike Klash final
"We had that kind of run in us earlier in the
day, but I screwed up." --
Angelle Savoie after running 7.154 at 189.12
mph in the last round of qualifying and taking
the top spot for raceday
"I think I staged too deep. I really wanted
to cut a good light, but I went too far." --
Savoie's teammate Antron Brown on his redlight
loss to Shawn Gann in the semis
"I am so happy for that guy." --
Gann on Showers' victory after losing to a holeshot
by just one-thousandth of a second in the final
round
"I've watched my heroes, John Myers and Dave
Schultz, win this race and for me to do it myself
is just unreal. On a holeshot no less. I don't
think this will sink in for quite awhile. I
still don't understand what I've done here."
-- Showers in victory
lane
"I've been on an incredible journey. Last year
I made a tough decision to change crew chiefs
even when I had no idea George Bryce would be
available. But I guess God had a plan and he
got us together, and look what's happened. I
used to know my place. I was a bottom-half qualifier
who maybe could luck-out and win a race. Now
we're a team that can run with anyone." --
Showers again, on what appears to be his breakout
season
