Teammates Greg Anderson and Jason Line have raced in the K&N Horsepower Challenge Pro Stock shootout 12 times prior to this coming weekend. Anderson made history last year when he became the first driver in 30 years of the special competition to claim five victories. In 2010, Anderson doubled-up with the K&N trophy followed by a victory at the main event at the Las Vegas Nationals. Only eight drivers have ever scooped up the coveted shootout/main event Pro Stock double-up bonus that amounts to big cash and massive bragging rights.
"I love that K&N Horsepower Challenge race," said Anderson, who is the No. 2 seed and will race Allen Johnson in the first round. "It's all about prestige and that fantastic trophy. I look forward to it all year long, and I missed it for two years and it killed me. Now that I'm back and qualified, I have a chance to win it again. I love it, and I can't wait. It's the biggest race of the year as far as I'm concerned."
Line was the guy in the other lane when Anderson won last year, and so far in his career, the K&N Horsepower Challenge trophy has been elusive for the driver of the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, despite four trips to the final round.
"The K&N Horsepower Challenge has lived up to its name for me – it's been a challenge, but it's one I look forward to," said Line, who enters the bonus race as the No. 1 seed and will go head-to-head in the first round with fan-vote recipient Erica Enders. "One of these years, I'm going to win that thing – and I'm doing my best to make that happen this year. There have been many times I've had a good car and just couldn't make it happen, whether I haven't driven well or I've had some bad luck, but that's just racing. It's just not easy, but it's not supposed to be. That's what makes it special when you do win that K&N trophy." [03/29/17]
Stanfield Racing Engines has signed on as the Sportsman Performance Bonus Award sponsor for Super Stock and the 2017 Division 4 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
The Stanfield Racing Engines Sportsman Performance Bonus Award will aim to increase payouts to racers in the Super Stock Eliminator class at all six NHRA Division 4 Lucas Oil events. NHRA’s Division 4, the historic South Central Division, is the home of “The Good Guys” and includes tracks in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
The Sportsman Performance Bonus Award is worth an additional $500 for the winner and $250 for the runner-up. [03/29/17]
The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southeast Division arrives at South Georgia Motorsports Park for the third of seven events in the division. This Friday through Sunday, March 31-April 2, drivers will be racing to earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.
Sportsman race categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Top Sportsman Series and Top Dragster Series will also be run in conjunction with the event. The NHRA Summit Jr. Drag Racing League will also be in action beginning on Saturday. This weekend Clay Millican has extra incentive to win at the 2017 DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas. Event sponsor DENSO is also an associate sponsor of Millican’s Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel dragster.
DENSO has been a sponsor of Millican’s for six years now. During the off-season, Millican was large part of the DENSO display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Stringer Performance Top Fuel dragster was on display and Millican talked to hundreds of students about safe driving habits off the race track.
“I really enjoy working with such a large, global company like DENSO,” said Millican. “They’ve been my sponsor for a few years and I look forward to working with them on some pretty big projects coming up this season.”
Last time Millican raced at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was in October and he ended up running his career-best elapsed time and speed of 3.689 seconds at 328.38 mph. The team is led by crew chief David Grubnic, a former NHRA Top Fuel driver turned tuner, and general manager Lance Larsen. [03/29/17]

The Sealed Stock Showdown features the top three racers in NMRA Coyote Stock and Chevrolet Performance Stock and one wildcard pick from each class to create an eight-car battle royale of sealed stock power.
The Open Comp All-Star Showdown pits the top four racers in NMRA Open Comp and NMCA Open Comp, along with four wild card picks from each class, to fill out a 16-car slugfest between some of the most competitive racers in the U.S.
Custom silver cups filled with cash will be awarded to each Showdown winner in the Aerospace Components NMRA/NMCA Winners Circle. [03/29/17]
This weekend will be Lee Bektash’s last time making a pass in Adelaide, the spiritual home of Chrysler Australia, the Aussie arm of his major sponsor MOPAR.
The Melbourne, Australia, racer will be competing hard to wrap up his second ANDRA Pro Stock Championship, and looking to add the ANDRA Grand Final Gold Christmas tree to his trophy cabinet as well.
He will also be looking to break his own 1,000-foot Pro Stock record over the weekend, which currently stands at 5.87. Follow him at #DONTHOLDBACK TOUR. [03/29/17]
