‘Spiderman’ looks for 18th championship at ManCup

Heading into this weekend’s ManCup Finals at Valdosta, GA, Larry “Spiderman” McBride has a slim 24-point lead over Sam Wills.

“I really want to win the championship, but most of all I want to win the race,” McBride said. “I try to block out the points and just focus on each round. If we can handle that, it will all come together.”

In just his second season campaigning his new motorcycle “Star”, McBride ran a career best ET of 5.741 seconds and a speed of 255.29 mph.

Mid-West Pro Mod Series adds Mid-West Outlaw Radial Series

Drag Radial will be added to the Pro Mod events next season and will have one only for them at Tulsa.

Fresh off its inaugural, five-event season, the Tulsa-based Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS)(www.midwestpromodseries.com) announced an expanded seven-race schedule for next year, with a tentative eighth event still in the works. Additionally, a sister organization, the Mid-West Outlaw Radial Series (MWORS), was created to race alongside the MWPMS, with a stand-alone Drag Radial event scheduled for March in Tulsa.

“What we’ve done is work together with the race tracks and promoters to create a points series for the Drag Radial guys. Instead of them just going from race to race, hoping to win or maybe finish runner-up, we wanted to give them the incentive to compete for a season championship,” Mid-West Pro Mod Series organizer Keith Haney explained.

The 2018 MWPMS/MWORS season will open Mar. 2-3, at the brand-new Xtreme Motorsports Park in Trumbull, TX, about 25 miles south of downtown Dallas.

“That’s a brand-new, all-concrete, state-of-the-art race track run by Gaylen Smith and we wanted to open up there in March to help give it a lift and really get it going,” Haney said. “If we bring all our great Pro Mod and Drag Radial racers down there I hope it’ll help to inspire the people around there to get out and keep supporting it.”

Thank…who?

Word comes to the Agent that after 10 years, Racers For Christ Chaplain Steve Dunn will not be allowed to hold bi-weekly chapel services this winter at National Trail Raceway in Ohio. Sources indicate the decision was made by the new ownership group as a cost cutting measure.

The Agent thought the NHRA had made some unpopular decisions in the past at that facility, but cutting God has to be a questionable decision.

Tucson hosts ADRA memorial

The Arizona Drag Racers Association held their season-ending Memorial Race at Tucson Dragway on Saturday, Nov. 11. Jack Dyer ran the program for Pro and Super Pro racers.

Paul Lorton of Peoria, AZ, took the Pro category win in his 1990 Mustang over the ’84 Mustang of Gary Cope.

The Super Pro (electronics) battle came down to two dragsters. Fred Schmidt of Tucson used a .010 Reaction Time to destroy the .063 effort by Russell Stryker (Truxton, AZ) and get the win.

Schmidt returned for the Traveling Trophy and defeated Lorton cruising to 159.02 mph after Lorton shut down at only 110.29.

By the Numbers

The Agent has to say that the NHRA World Finals at Pomona had to be some of the most exciting and nail-biting racing this season, so he was perplexed to see the FS1 numbers.

The Sunday show had 336,000 viewers for a rating of 0.20, which is not the lowest rating this season, but down from most of the telecasts this year.

New Product of the Day

Driven Racing Oil

Driven Racing Oil™ has added an oil developed to provide maximum performance at a price the Sportsman racer can afford. SR50 20W-50 is a robust conventional motor oil to be used where frequent oil changes are needed, such as bracket racing, to eliminate the build-up of dirt or fuel dilution. It utilizes a proprietary anti-wear and friction-reducing additive package to fight valve train wear and internal scuffing. Ideal for race engines requiring a 20W-50 weight motor oil, SR50 provides consistent protection for flat tappet engines and prevents lifter skidding in aggressive roller cam valve train using both needle and bushing lifters. It is not recommended in engines with stamped steel rockers; instead, use Driven Racing Oil’s XP9 or XP6 for optimum durability.
