The 41st annual Man Cup World Finals motorcycle drag race, held November 16-19 at South Georgia Motorsports Park, was billed as a true world class event in advance of the festivities. Five hundred bikes came from all over the world to take part in the history-making event.
Larry “Spiderman” McBride made an historic 5.61 elapsed time run at 249 mph, the quickest pass ever in the history of Top Fuel motorcycle drag racing.
Kirby Apathy and Hawaya Racing have duked it out going 7-Oh’s on more than one occasion. The race to see who could break into the 6’s first in the Pro Fuel class is over. Apathy’s impressive 6.85 is now in the history books.

A story in the Inland Daily Bulletin newspaper says that the Pomona City Council will be reviewing zoning regulations for the land the Fairplex sits on. The Fairplex is the site of the NHRA’s Winternationals and World Finals.
On Monday, Nov. 20, Council members voted to begin the process. The decision to send the matter to the city’s planning personnel came after the City Council listened to about 50 speakers — about half calling for changes to the existing regulations while other said the suggested changes presented in a city staff report would hurt Fairplex and its ability to retain events such as the National Hot Rod Association drag races.
The Council committee came up with some recommendations that include requiring Fairplex to secure permits for events that will draw 10,000 or more visitors, drawing concerns from Fairplex.
Such a requirement could prompt some groups, such as the NHRA, to leave Fairplex, Fairplex officials said.
But Council members said they have no desire to chase organizations or events such as the NHRA’s drag races out of Fairplex.
“I think what I hear from the Council is it doesn’t want to see the NHRA activities go away” because of an unclear permitting process, Mayor Tim Sandoval said.[11/21/17]

Prescott Raceway is the latest track to enter into a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association.
The Southwest Arkansas facility features a 1/8-mile drag strip and a full schedule of racing from March through October. There are special events throughout the year including the Thanksgiving Weekend Bracket Bash scheduled for this Thursday through Sunday.
“I take care of my drivers the best I can,” track owner Jackie Lewis said. “I like the programs IHRA offers like the bracket finals. The drivers really like going after the Ironman and it gives them something extra special to compete for when we have a points race.” [11/21/17]
