Officials at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL, have rescheduled this weekend’s 24th annual United Black Drag Racer Association Black Sunday meet to October 13-14 due to the impending storm threat from the hurricane in the Gulf Coast that is expected to head for the Midwest by the weekend.
“The UBDRA event has been a staple on the Gateway Motorsports Park schedule for more than 20 years and many groups were involved in making this reschedule work in an already busy month,” said Chris Blair, Gateway Motorsports Park’s Executive Vice President and General Manager. [09/06/18]
Andreas Arthursson cut a 0.017 RT and powered away with a 5.7512/258.30 to reset the FIA Pro Modified ET record at Tierp Arena, Sweden. Arthursson also picked up the Swedish championship race within a race.
To see all the other action -- and plenty more records set -- at the event from DRO’s European correspondents Ivan Sansom and Rose Hughes, go to here.
The European Finals will be held Sept. 6-9 at Santa Pod Raceway, UK, and our weary correspondents will be there to bring you the results. [09/06/18]
MT has supported small-tire events since 2009. [09/06/18]
The Super Chevy Show event originally scheduled for October 5-6 at Gateway has been rescheduled to April 26-27, 2019. The Super Chevy event will be run in conjunction with the first of two visits to GMP for the Midwest Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) and the Premier Street Car Association (PSCA). The new date will be one of the earliest car show events on the 2019 calendar in the St. Louis region and will avoid conflict with two other local events scheduled on the October date. In addition, the partnership with the other sanctioning groups will provide a great addition to the existing show.
GMP will host three days of drag racing – the Fall Bracket Battle -- on the original date of the Super Chevy Show that will be open to all makes and manufacturers (the car show element will not be held at this time). What was the original Super Chevy weekend will now have a Battle of the Brands bracket event on Friday, Oct. 5, that will pay $1,500 to win Box and $1,000 to win No-Box. Saturday, Oct. 6, will feature the Fall Bracket Battle that will pay a guaranteed $5,000 to win in Super Pro along with racing in other categories. The event weekend will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 7, with the NHRA National Dragster Challenge that will award NHRA “Wally” trophies to bracket class winners. [09/06/18]
Rich Bailey's blown Alcohol Dragster was displayed all 11 days of the Oregon State Fair in Salem, Oregon. At least 250,000 people came through the gates and at peak times a photo was taken of someone in the dragster every two minutes. The display was part of the interactive GK Machine "Motor Mania" exhibit which also included a five-engine pulling tractor. Over 4,000 coupons for Woodburn Dragstrip were handed out along with promo cards of the dragster. The display was great exposure for the sport of drag racing and the race team's sponsors. [09/06/18]
John Pluchino currently leads the PDRA Xtreme Pro Stock points. These cars are powered by the Mountain Motors that NHRA is thinking of adding to their lineup.
The eighth-mile racers of the Professional Drag Racers Association will converge at GALOT Motorsports Park this weekend for the PDRA Drag Wars. The sixth of eight races on the 2018 PDRA Tour, Drag Wars will feature competition in the PDRA’s five professional classes and numerous sportsman categories.
With just three races left in the 2018 season, the championship scenarios are starting to take shape. The top two drivers in some classes, like Extreme Pro Stock and Top Jr. Dragster, are separated by less than 10 points. Two drivers are tied for the lead in Pro Jr. Dragster. Drivers in classes like Pro Nitrous and Pro Boost hold more commanding leads, but there’s still plenty of racing left to make or break championship hopes. [09/06/18]
