Let’s go to press: Mike McIntire has sold his championship-winning “McAttack” Nostalgia F/C to an unknown party and is rumored to have then bought a turnkey Big Show flopper from Kalitta Racing.

Paul Romine made his “retirement” from racing official. His three-time DRO National Champion “Man O’ War” War Mustang is sitting in his showroom complete and ready to race at Bakersfield in October. Cavalieri says $78,000 for the complete car.

The NHDRO is rescheduling their Louisville event one more time as the rain from tropical storm Gordon is expected to sweep across the Midwest all weekend. The CC Powersports NHDRO Mid Season Nationals at Ohio Valley Dragway near Louisville, KY, is now set for October 19-21.

The NHDRO event is still on for Sept. 28-30 at Indianapolis.    [09/07/18]

This weekend sees the culmination of the FIA and FIM-E drag racing championships at Santa Pod Raceway, England, with a whole host of titles to be decided as well as the aim of finishing the season on a high at one of the most prestigious and longest running events on the European calendar.

FIA Top Fuel is close to being a done deal with Anita Makela (shown) destined to take the title back to Finland and FIA Pro Modified is definitely sorted as Jimmy Alund will pick up his first Pro Mod title to go alongside his 10 Pro Stock championships.

One door closes, another door opens. Australian Pro Mod racer Steve Easton has been touring the U.S. this summer. He was hoping to drive or crew on a racecar at the U.S. Nationals, but decided to race at the Outlaw 660 event at Dragway 42 in Ohio instead. As it happened, his team picked up their first win of the year in the eight-car qualified Pro Mod team, beating Jerry Martino.

“We were going for lane choice (in the semis) but we came up a little short. Our opponent in the finals had run a 3.99 in the semis and we ran a 4.02,” Easton explained. “On the last run I tried to smash the tree as hard as I could. We went out and won on another holeshot with a .062 margin of victory with our 4.02 beating his 4.01.”

Ford has ended all nationwide, or Tier 1, marketing for the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Taurus and also is dialing back regional spending in certain markets — even though the Fusion will remain in showrooms for at least the next two years. Mark LaNeve, Ford's VP of U.S. marketing, sales and service, said the automaker plans to redeploy that money on vehicles such as the Mustang, EcoSport and a slew of next-generation utilities coming by the end of the decade.

In April, Ford revealed plans to end sales of all sedans in North America as it transitions to a crossover- and SUV-heavy lineup. The automaker had said it would import a wagon version of the Focus to the U.S. from China but nixed that plan last week because of the Trump administration's escalating trade war, leaving the Mustang as its lone car nameplate within a few years.

While Ford already has stopped building the North American version of the Focus and will end production of the Fiesta and Taurus by the middle of next year, the Fusion will stick around for at least a couple more years.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hot Wheels, the United States Postal Service will issue 20 Forever stamps showcasing some of the most outrageous car designs from Hot Wheels. Arranged in diagonal rows, the 20 stamps showcase photographer Len Rizzi’s images of 10 Hot Wheels cars – two of each design – speeding along a bring orange track.

The USPS has chosen the Goodguys  26th Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals as the place for the first day of issue ceremony. This will take place at Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, on the Goodguys Stage on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m.

Five Hot Wheels cars will be on display all day Saturday for fans to see along with being able to buy the stamps at the USPS booth on Saturday at the event.    [09/07/18]
