Racing facility opens in Kuwait to enthusiastic fans

The drag racing-loving nation of Kuwait finally saw the opening of its new dragstrip at Kuwait Motor Town last week, and the result was an over-the-top festival of big horsepower and good times. Drivers delivered on-track action, racing through the night and into the wee hours of Saturday morning as the Kuwait International Drag Racing Championship ran out its ladders for 13 classes.

Veteran track manager Scott Valetti was hired to take the beautiful facility and make it race ready -- a huge job considering that two weeks before the event the track had no trained staff, and with less than a week to go there were no bleachers. Kurt Johnson’s Total Venue Concepts crew came in several days before the event to grind the track, lay down some PJ1, and rotate in the rubber.

Kuwait Motor Town (KWT) is a brand new, world class, 2.6 million square-meter motorsports complex located south of Kuwait City in Arifjan. KWT is composed of seven tracks showcasing nine racing disciplines on one configurable road racing circuit, a dragstrip, karting, motocross, Rallycross and drifting tracks.

The second drag race at Kuwait Motor Town will be March 19-22.

San Antonio track moves to NHRA, hires new GM

Alamo City Motorplex, located in Marion, TX, just east of San Antonio, has joined the NHRA Member Track Network in Division 4, the South Central Division.

Opened in 1999, Alamo City Motorplex (formerly San Antonio Raceway) has been purchased by Essie Mianabi. Madyson Ayesh will oversee the day-to-day operations as the track’s general manager. Ayesh previously served as the track manager for Kansas International Dragway.

Alamo City Motorplex is a multi-use facility boasting a quarter-mile drag strip, drifting track, and concert venue.

The Agent must wonder, could this be the reason the Funny Car Chaos event was just moved to Pine Valley Raceway, an IHRA track?
