Bobby Cottrell drove Bucky Austin’s Camaro to the Nostalgia Funny Car win at the March Meet on Sunday, March 10. Opponent Jerry Espeseth lost traction and Cottrell ran 5.718 at 249.03 mph to take the victory.
In the Top Fuel class it was Adam Sorokin again taking the Champion Speed Shop dragster to the final-round win when Mendy Fry’s High Speed Motorsports dragster broke and coasted down the track.
Ron Capps took a turn driving a ’38 Fiat Fuel Altered in his week off from the NHRA circuit, losing in the first round to Dan Hix, who went on to runner up to James Day.
A couple of performances deserve special note. In the Top Fuel semifinal Fry had run a blistering 5.490 at 259.71 mph clocking the first 5.4-time for the class. During Funny Car qualifying Dan Horan’s Camaro had a speed of 265.22 mph. Congratulations to both.
We’ll have the complete story tomorrow in the new edition of DRO. [03/11/19]
zMax Dragway has announced they will add another item to the entertainment mix for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals when on Friday, April 26, qualifying will be run in the evening.
Nothing beats header flames and the smell of nitro lingering in the night air. Yeah, baby! [03/11/19]
In addition, Taylor Motorsports will present the Quick Reaction Time bonus, which will award $100 to the driver with the best reaction time in the first round of eliminations, at each of the seven events. [03/11/19]
