Middendorf to debut new wrap at Funny Car Chaos

Allan Middendorf will debut his newly designed “American Outlaw” this weekend at Funny Car Chaos at North Star Dragway in Denton, TX. He teamed up with Vinyl Images & Design out of Fenton, MO, to create this stunning new look. It was not an easy project, but the owner and designers were up to the challenge.

“At 3:30 in the morning I woke up with this vision of what I wanted and brought it to my designers. When you hear American Outlaw you think the Wild West, skulls and Jesse James. I also wanted the American flag to pop,” said Vinyl Images & Design owner and President, John Duever. “My designers Shawn Stein and Jeff Richter just nailed it. They brought my idea to life.”

Duever added, “I put my heart and soul into this car; I personally did the install myself. It took around 23 hours to finish it all up.”

The Illinois-based Middendorf has spent the last three years putting together his Funny Car operation, which made its first appearance at the 2018 World Series of Drag Racing. Over the winter the car was changed to a five-disc clutch system. Jake Sanders is crew chief for the team.

The 19th Annual NHRA Dodge HEMI Challenge will fire up August 29-30 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis as part of the six days of race action at the 65th Annual U.S. Nationals. The event showcases Super Stock/A-HEMI (SS/AH) NHRA Sportsman class competitors battling on the quarter-mile in 1968 Dodge Dart and Plymouth Barracuda machines powered by the Mopar 426 HEMI engine.

Competitors will vie for the unique 42.6-lb NHRA Dodge HEMI Challenge trophy, created as a callout to the 426 HEMI engine. All 16 drivers to reach the elimination rounds will receive cash rewards, with the winner walking away with the ultimate prize of the $15,000 winner’s purse.
