Cruz Pedregon’s Funny Car will have a new look at The Strip this weekend. The paint scheme on the Dodge is focused on Snap-on franchisees with the name of an area franchisee on the side of the car at each event.
“The car looks awesome, and it’s gonna run even better than it looks,” said Glenn Huszar, Pedregon’s crew chief. “Four-wide is an exciting way to race, and it paid off last year for Cruz when we won in Charlotte. We’ll be tuning with that win in mind this weekend.” [04/05/19]
Cruz’s brother Frank Pedregon suffered a broken leg in a passenger car accident and will not be driving at this weekend’s Four-Wide Nationals. He underwent surgery to repair his femur broken in three places.
Frank returned to racing at this year’s Winternationals. The Worsham Family Racing Funny Car team plans to return at the Sonoma Nationals on July 26-28. [04/05/19]
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 127 West Jackson St., Sonora, CA. Private interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Sonora. [04/05/19]
Steve Sherman has joined the Irwindale (CA) Dragstrip team for 2019 as the Dragstrip Event Coordinator.
Sherman brings his “Match Race Madness” concept to the eighth-mile track with new “Thunder Struck” grudge races on Thursday nights. The events began April 4.
“Thunder Struck” will feature three to five invitation-only grudge races, which will be chosen one week in advance. Factors deciding the match-ups will include Index, ET, fan requests, car appearance, make and model. [04/05/19]
Al Ahten will be in charge along with team partner Howard Katano. Providing support and turning the wrenches will be Bob Ahten and Kevin "Shark" Colvell. [04/05/19]
Justin Ashley, son of former Funny Car and Pro Mod driver Mike Ashley, and partner Dustin Davis have moved forward their NHRA national event debut to this fall. The team had earlier announced a 2020 12-race schedule for the Justin Ashley Racing/Davis Motorsports Top Fuel dragster.
They now plan to make their debut sometime during the Countdown to the Championship, but will run no more than four events to maintain the 24-year-old Ashley’s rookie status for next season.
Last year Ashley drove an A/Fuel dragster he purchased from Anthony Dicero Racing after driving with Randy Meyer Racing’s rent-a-ride program. Davis and racing partner Richard Townsend campaigned the “Nitroholic” nostalgia Funny Car in 2017. Lance Larsen will be crew chief for the Top Fueler. [04/05/19]
We’ve been touting the advantages to advertisers of advertising online for 20 years now, but here’s a bit of unexpected information we can add to our marketing spiel: Customers are often drinking while shopping online and drunk shoppers spend more money than sober ones.
A recent survey by The Hustle found that drunk shopping is an estimated $48 billion industry – a majority of it going to Amazon’s coffers. Among a sample of more than 2,000 alcohol-consuming adults, nearly 80 percent admitted to making at least one drunk purchase. According t0 The Hustle’s data, Millennials and GenXers with disposable income are inebriated e-commerce’s key demographic.
While we don’t condone over indulging (and certainly not drinking and driving) … still, we’ll drink to that! [04/05/19]
