Foley Lewis Racing to run eight NHRA events in Top Fuel

Todd Paton drove the Foley Lewis dragster at Charlotte.

Doug Foley and his Foley Lewis Racing team have announced the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team will compete in Top Fuel at eight NHRA national events next season.

Foley will make his licensing runs and join NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car drivers during preseason testing at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park near Phoenix, AZ, Jan. 29-Feb. 1. It will be Foley's first time back in a Top Fuel seat since 2011, though he raced Top Alcohol Dragster in 2018.

"I think it's an opportunity for me and Tim to go out and show that a small team can still be competitive," Foley said. "I think the field lends to that. We don't have the fields we used to. Yeah, the NHRA at the top is really, really good cars, but that's the way it always was. So for us, we feel like if we run our race and focus on our guys and what we have to offer, I think we can be competitive."

Starting with the NHRA Arizona Nationals near Phoenix in February, Foley plans to attend the Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL; the 4-Wide Nationals in Concord, NC; the Southern Nationals in Commerce, GA; the Virginia Nationals in Dinwiddie, VA; and the Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN. The team will take a summer break before continuing the season at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, the NHRA Nationals in Mohnton, PA, and the Carolina Nationals in Concord, NC.

Sonoma Speedway Children’s Charities donates nearly $380,000

Fifty-four Sonoma County, California, non-profit organizations will benefit from nearly $380,000 in grants recently awarded by the Sonoma chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. In total, $378,000 was distributed to youth-serving organizations in Sonoma County, bringing the chapter's total distribution of funds to nearly $6.8 million since 2001.

The amount raised this fiscal year by the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway includes $30,000 donated to the Fire Resilience Fund by Comcast after Sonoma Raceway President and General Manager Steve Page was named as a finalist for the 2018 Comcast Community Champion of the Year Award. The Fire Resilience fund supports youth-serving non-profit organizations that continue to work on recovery and rebuilding after the 2017 Northern California fires.

The 13th annual Eric Medlen Nitro Night, which is held Thursday evening prior to the NHRA Sonoma Nationals in July, honored Funny Car driver Jack Beckman with the Eric Medlen Spirit Award and generated another $20,000 for the Sonoma chapter.

The Agent reminds everyone that this is the season for giving, so please donate to your favorite charity.
