Double Up for Moses
Photos by Ron Lewis
Ken Moses became just the 26th driver in NHRA history to win more than one eliminator at an NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event, winning in both Super Comp and Top Dragster on July 7 at the NHRA New England Nationals.
Super Stock: Byron Worner, Chevy Camaro, 10.453, 97.25 def. Richard Kay, Plymouth Valiant, 27.213, 42.31. Kay broke, giving Worner his seventh National event win.
Stock Eliminator: Dean Cook, Ford Mustang, 10.757, 124.02 def. Angelo DiTocco, Pontiac Firebird, 10.384, 127.63. DiTocco had the advantage off the starting line, but Cook closed the gap and won by .0073 seconds for his second Wally.
Super Comp: Kenneth Moses (far lane), Dragster, 8.894, 182.01 def. Kyle Bigley, Dragster, 8.875, 166.64. This was the third National event win for Moses in SC.
Super Gas: Iggie Boicesco (near lane), Chevy Corvette, 9.900, 163.10 def. John MacLean, Corvette, 9.888, 161.85. Boicesco picked up his ninth National event Wally when he ran dead-on his index while MacLean broke out.
Super Street: Brian Sawyer (far lane), Chevy Camaro, 10.902, 141.37 def. Darren Wood, Pontiac Firebird, 10.944, 147.76. Wood was off the line first, but Sawyer chased him down for his second National event win at Epping.
Top Dragster: Kenneth Moses (far lane), 6.547, 205.47 def. Nick Meloni, 6.684, 198.50. Meloni was first off the line, but took too much stripe to give Moses the win.
Top Sportsman: Dave Miller, Chevy S-10, 6.937, 189.95 def. Richard Lachapelle, Chevy Beretta, 7.709, 178.24. Miller got his first National event Wally in his first final round.
Pro Stock Snowmobile: John Parenteau (near lane), Arctic Cat, 8.472, 154.90 def. Tiina Duncanson, Ski-Doo, 8.779, 151.31.
