WEST NEW KALITTA CREW CHIEF
Johnny West has been named the crew chief on Scott Kalitta's
new Funny Car. Kalitta is leaving the Top Fuel ranks next
season and returning to the floppers, which he drove from
1986-90.
Kalitta's new car will
have a Monte Carlo style body on a Murf McKinney chassis.
West is a former Funny Car team owner and driver who has
worked with many of the great names in drag racing. Larry
Meyer will be co-crew chief.
"I've been friends with Johnny for twenty years,"
said Kalitta. "Johnny's awesome. He's built Funny Cars,
he's raced them and he's tuned them. It's an extra benefit
for a driver and crew chief's rapport that they both have
driven and worked on them."
Kalitta's former dragster crew chief, Jim Oberhofer, will
move to the Kalitta Motorsports-managed and Ken Black-owned
Top Fuel dragster that will be driven by nitro rookie Hillary
Will. Oberhofer will turn over his duties as team manager
for the entire Kalitta Motorsports team to Ben Marshall,
who also serves as a test driver. [11-17-2005]
