It looked like Dan Millen's day was over
in the semis when his turbocharged, Skinny
Kid-built '02 Mustang oiled the right
lane just as it crossed the finish line,
but the offending oil pump was repaired
in time for his Ramchargers Super Street
final against Keith Szabo's 1993 'Stang.
Szabo left first with a .456 light, but
Millen's 7.359 at 195.68 was just strong
enough to take the win over Szabo's 7.409/189.10
combo.
The 2000 Chevy S-10 of St. Leon, IN's
Jim Huber was one of the most impressive
vehicles on the grounds at Atlanta Dragway.
Huber qualified number-three in the Drive
Train Specialist Super Mod class and set
low E.T. of the meet at 7.674 secs in
winning the final round over number-one
qualifier Johnny Baio's 1969 Camaro.
When her son Brian couldn't make the trip
from their Houston home, Linda Massingill
(right) took over the driving duties of
his 1998 Chevy Camaro and went on to win
the NMCA's Mr. Gasket EFI Eliminator class
in Atlanta. Massingill is the director
of the School of Automotive Machinists
in Houston and had 13 of the school's
students on hand as her crew. (Photo courtesy

The 1966 Chevelle of New Brunswick, NJ's
Brian Ferrari stopped Ross Stomp's 1969
Nova in the Nitrous Express Nostalgia
Pro Street final with a 7.650 at 177.88
mph pass.
Rick Moroso won his first ever Competition
Engineering Hot Street race at the Atlanta
strip last season before going on to win
the championship. He started off with
a victory this year, too, beating "Rockin"
Al Miller in the final. Moroso's current
2000 Corvette probably will be driven
by crewmember Jim Palmer by the fourth
NMCA race of the season in June, though,
while Moroso will return to wheeling the
completely refurbished 1961 'Vette previously
campaigned by his father, Dick. "We've
put a completely new back-half on the
car, new metal, new engine, new drivetrain,
new front suspension, and new interior
that'll look stock," Moroso said. "Except
for the paint, it'll be a brand-new car."
Edelbrock Pro Nostalgia winner John Jones
barely nipped final-round opponent Paul
Adams by 1/1000 at the start, then went
9.087 secs to Adams' 9.095, with both
drivers going exactly 147.07 mph in the
quarter mile.
