ROWE MINUS SCALPI
Danny Rowe debuted his new John Scalpi-built
'36 Chevy. Scalpi also builds the five-inch
bore center Sonny Leonard style wedge motors
for Rowe. Rowe ran a best of 6.815/198.54, which
is way off of his normal performance standards.
One reason for that may have been that Scalpi,
who usually tunes that car, wasn't at the event.
Another factor may have been that Rowe had four
different brands of Pro Mod tires mounted in
his pits for testing.
IT'S A SNAP
A lot of racers were questioning why Mike Stawicki's
Snapcase-backed '63 'Vette got an invitation
to the "big dance" at Gainesville. The Buffalo-based
racers answered that question quickly as they
came off the trailer with a stout 6.252/224.32
and backed it up with a 6.251/224.83 to qualify
seventh in the quickest eight-car Pro Mod field
in history. In the first round they ran a respectable
6.323. Are there any more questions?
Just as a note, the band Snapcase's lead guitar
player is Jon Salemi, who crews and works on
the car between rounds. ss, this one a 6.90
at 202 to Mangrum's tire-shaking 8.27 at a coasting
117 mph.
