The Rocky Mountain Superchargers started off their 2017 season at Pueblo Motorsports Park on May 6. The event, Thunder in the Rockies presented by Competition Products, brought out top flight racing in the sportsman bracket eliminators as well as a full field for the Superchargers.
Last year’s Top Supercharged Thunder Champion, Tom "Fireball" Furches, won his final with a 6.75-second blast at 201.8 MPH.
The Pro Supercharged/All Star winner was local racer and many time race winner, Josh Herman, who made it to the final via the break rule when Low Qualifier Steve Stracener encountered engine problems in his "Last Starfighter" Dodge Challenger.
Next up is the Lanier's Speed Shop Invitational presented by Clear Vue Concepts at Julesburg Dragstrip on May 28 and then back to Pueblo for the Colorado Fuel and Gas Championships presented by Howard's Cams on June 3. [05/11/17]
There is a twist though. In order to spread the money around, a driver can get the money for either Top Speed or Low ET but not both even if they set both marks. Then the driver with the second best Speed or second best ET will get the other $100 bonus. [05/11/17]
VOLUME XIX, NUMBER 4 - April 2017
Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA, will host their first Ratchet Friday event on May 12. In addition to heads-up grudge racing for import and domestic cars, trucks and motorcycles, there will also be a car show and party atmosphere.
All makes and models are welcome. Spectator entry is just $10 with ladies admitted free. It costs just $15 to race. Limited to 400 tech cards. [05/11/17]
Mahle GM Vortec Head Set
The MAHLE Original® head gasket set for 1996 – 2002 General Motors 5.7-liter, 8-cylinder “Vin:R,“ Vortec™ engines features OE quality construction. The exhaust manifold gaskets are made from multi-layer steel (MLS) and the intake manifold gaskets have new technology polymer construction for superior sealing. The set includes all the parts – 35 pieces in total – that technicians need to do the job. The intake manifold gaskets in the GM Vortec head set (part no. HS5746C) use new technology: a hydrogenated nitrile butyl rubber (HNBR) constrained sealing bead on a molded polymer carrier. The coolant ports are fully encapsulated with HNB to protect against organic acid technology (OAT) coolant. Metal load limiters are incorporated to prevent over-torquing. They protect the carrier against thermal expansion and contraction. The exhaust gasket in the GM Vortec head set utilizes 301 full hard stainless steel featuring an embossment on each layer at critical sealing areas to enhance sealing. The spring steel layers provide tension when compressed, keeping the joint tight and preventing the seal from being blown out. The MLS construction used in MAHLE Original gaskets is superior to composite gasket materials that do not match the OE design. [05/11/17]
