New Producer named for NHRA

Steve Reintjes has been named Coordinating Producer for all NHRA television productions and video content. Reintjes will be the producer of all NHRA television programs on FOX, and for producing and overseeing all NHRA video content that is created at the NHRA Wally Parks Studio.

 

The Emmy Award-winning television producer joins NHRA from ESPN, and brings over 17 years of experience in network television production, having produced over 500 live events for 11 different sports including production responsibilities on multiple Indy 500 broadcasts. He attended NHRA events at Pomona with his family when he was growing up.

 

Reintjes will be taking on the role immediately and will be based in Glendora on a full-time basis reporting to Executive Producer & Chief Content Officer, Ken Adelson. Reintjes holds a degree in telecommunications from Baylor University.     

Dunn deal?

This morning waiting on the Phlegm Building penthouse porch was one of his reliable, tanned pigeons from the left coast with something in his beak. Scrawled on the back of a napkin from The Hat Pastrami shack was a note reading to watch for former IHRA President Mike Dunn to be part of the on camera Pay-Per-View coverage of the upcoming Good Vibrations March Meet from Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.    

IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular adds Mooresville Dragway

Mooresville (NC) Dragway is the latest track to be announced as a host facility for the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular.

 

The double-race weekend for the IHRA’s new bracket racing program is scheduled for July 13-15 at the 1/8-mile facility located near Mooresville, NC, known as “Race City USA” for all the NASCAR and drag racing teams based there.

 

The races feature a $10,000-to-win payout on Saturday and a $5,000-to-win on Sunday.

 

The IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular debuts March 9-11 with double-race weekends at the new Xtreme Raceway Park, Ferris, TX, and Farmington Dragway, Mocksville, NC.

 

Other dates announced include Keystone Raceway Park, May 18-20, Darlington Dragway, May 25-27, Dragway 42 in Ohio, June 8-10 and Maryland International Raceway, August 24-26. The rest of the schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

 

The biggest value comes for anyone who pre-enters for the event. All pre-entered racers will get a buy one/get one free offer to help kick off the 2018 season. When you pre-enter and buy an entry for Saturday’s race, you will get a free entry for Sunday’s race. Pre-entries are available up to June 30, 2018.  

McGaha to run full season with Hornberger as crew chief

Texas Pro Stock driver Chris McGaha will run the entire 24-event Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule in 2018 and has named Adam Hornberger as the new crew chief for his Harlow Sammons Camaro.

 

Hornberger was crew chief for Allen Johnson since 2015, Jeg Coughlin Jr. in 2014 and Mike Edwards prior to that. Johnson retired from racing at the end of last season. 

Leonard gets Lifetime Achievement Award

Sonny Leonard of Sonny's Racing Engines received this Lifetime Achievement Award from HPL Oil and the Virginia Transportation Museum. The inscription reads, "For Outstanding Vision, Dedication and Commitment to the Sport of Drag Racing.” Leonard was initially recognized at a special drag racing show at the museum late last year, but HPL Oil wanted to be sure he had this updated trophy for his showcase at the shop.

Vegas track working on four-wide expansion

Four-wide racing will come to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NHRA national event April 6-8. The track is expected to be complete in mid-February.
