IHRA AUSTRALIA ADDS 2,000 MEMBERS

IRG Sports + Entertainment just announced that the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Australia has issued more than 2,000 competitor licenses in just seven months.

 

The IHRA Australia is a partner and sanctioning body of the 400 Thunder Australian Professional Drag Racing Series and the 400 Thunder Australian Sportsman Championship Series.

 

Maurice Allen, Managing Director for IHRA Australia, said, "It's a terrific milestone in such a short period of time. It demonstrates a common-sense approach to the licensing structure which was required. What is most pleasing are the 2-3 year licenses with the competitors which shows their support for IHRA Australia and a fresh, new start. It's also a chance to thank our stewards and tech experts in their support of the racers." [03/23/17]

FS1 AUDIENCE NUMBERS FOR GATORNATIONALS

The FS1 numbers for Sunday, March 19, are in and 439,000 tuned in to the three-hour eliminations show. By way of comparison, the South Carolina-Duke NCAA basketball game had 5,956,000 on TNT.

 

The NHRA Phoenix event had 546,000 viewers on FS1. [03/23/17]

TWO TRACKS JOIN IHRA

South Carolina’s Mooresville Dragway has entered into a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the IHRA.

 

Donnie Gibb Jr. of Gibbs Race Cars & Performance Parts is the new owner of the eighth-mile facility with Tony Brown as the general manager. A grand re-opening, featuring the season’s first points race, is scheduled for Saturday, April 29.

 

In addition, US 41 Motorplex in Morocco, IN, has joined the IHRA member tracks. The facility features a quarter-mile asphalt dragstrip.

 

Under the co-ownership of Tim Ringer and Bill Hupke the track has undergone a series of upgrades, including the addition of more lights. Their schedule of heads-up and bracket racing will be announced soon. [03/23/17]
